FAIRFAX, Va.—Spring has officially sprung in Northern Virginia. The first day of April marked two special days. Not only was it Easter Sunday, but also the opening day of the Mosaic Central Farm Market.
Despite the holiday, many area residents and families came out to enjoy the community atmosphere as well as shop the market’s specialty and artisan vendors—possibly even boosting the local economy as a result.
Now celebrating five years running, it’s farmers markets like Mosaic Central Farm Market that play a vital role in the community and the local economy.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there are over 8,400 farmers markets nationwide that are thriving and growing. And, a recent study by UC Davis highlights the immediate financial benefits of consumers purchasing directly from a farmer.
A 2016 study found that a dollar spent buying directly from a farmer has about twice the impact on the local economy as spending a dollar on food that goes through a middleman like a supermarket. https://t.co/Kvvv2LULsD

And last, perhaps one of the most convincing reasons to visit the Mosaic Central Farm market is because of the dogs. This market is the only farmers market in Northern Virginia that permits dogs at their markets.
